Reviving a Cultural Gem

Pleasantville, NY

Rome Theater-Jacob Burns Center

The Jacob Burns Film Center is housed in the historic Rome Theater, a 1925 landmark building that was once a thriving movie theater. Located in central Westchester, it serves as a cultural center and alternative to modern multiplexes, featuring foreign and independent films, festival releases, lectures, jazz concerts, educational programs and panel discussions.

Collado provided complete mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services for the new film center comprising three theaters, an exhibition space, a library, café and support spaces. The Spanish mission-style façade was restored to its original splendor as a testament to the town’s architectural and cultural history.  Preservation of the historic theater, through the efforts of a non-profit, has made a profound impact on the area, drawing more visitors, increasing the local businesses and contributing to the overall town aesthetic.
