Joseph Lloyd Manor

Built in 1767 on a stunning 2.5-acre site overlooking Lloyd Harbor, the historic Joseph Lloyd Manor in Lloyd Harbor, NY, stands as a testament to American history. Once the heart of the 3,000-acre plantation in the late 17th century, the manor is now recognized as a national Literary Landmark in honor of Jupiter Hammon, one of the first published African American authors who wrote about the moral conflicts of slavery and freedom in the early United States. Today, the manor serves as a center for historical education and requires enhanced indoor climate control and humidity regulation.

Collado Engineering was retained to assess the existing conditions of the manor’s HVAC systems, including air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and humidification. Recommendations were made to transition the building away from fossil fuels, fully electrify the HVAC and plumbing systems, and perform a comprehensive electrical upgrade to support these improvements.

A new HVAC system was designed to provide precise heating, cooling, and humidity control while preserving the manor’s historic charm. Cost-efficiency and sustainability have been prioritized throughout the design process with the re-use of aspect of the HVAC infrastructure wherever possible, ensuring that the upgrades enhance the building’s preservation while maintaining its historical integrity.
